Most farmers who received free cotton inputs countrywide have intensified land tillage and are ready to plant their white gold as soon as the rains fall after the Cotton Company availed three tractors to Muzarabani Business Unit.
The Presidential Cotton Free Inputs Scheme has spread to all cotton greenbelts with the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe recently taking the programme down to the Hoya, Machaya, and Chionde areas in Mashonaland Central where it availed three tractors to assist farmers to till their land in readiness to plant their white gold on time.
“For the first time we have been given free cotton inputs and now they have assisted us to till our land. We are ready to plant as soon as the rains come,” said one farmer after receiving the free cotton inputs in Muzarabani.
Business Manager for Muzarabani Innocent Gukwe expressed the government commitment to continue empowering cotton farmers until they make a break-through in their lives.
“This is the 3rd year government is giving free inputs and it will continue. Those doing well will be allowed to increase hectarage, so put the input to good use, so that you achieve good yields and earn a living,” said Mr Gukwe.
This season the Presidential Cotton Free Inputs programme is targeting 400 000 families up from 350 000 in rural areas who rely on cotton as their source of livelihood.
